Lancaster Cakes

Lancaster Cakes is a home run business which was started up in November of 2011, in the Eastbourne area. On offer is a bespoke cake making service which includes celebration cakes (birthdays, weddings, baby showers, etc), cupcakes and anything else that the customer may desire can be considered. Delivery is offered for free within a 5 mile radius of Eastbourne, although delivery to other areas can be arranged for a small fee.

I was delivered 6 lemon cupcakes which were beautifully presented and were delicious! The cupcakes are just what you want a cupcake to be, a moist cake with lovely frosting that is sweet, but not too sweet. And the wonderful flavour that Joanne has created will lead you back to her in an effort to try every flavor.

The cupcakes are lovely to look at, but even better to eat! The lemon flavour is the perfect accoutrement to a hot cup of tea :).

Joanne is registered with Wealden Borough Council and holds a current food safety for catering certificate, as is required by law. At present, the orders are done evenings & weekends. Joanne will take the brief that the customer gives her, including size, flavour, finish and packaging then provides options & prices for you to choose from.

When I first met Susanna, I was a little apprehensive, as I didn't know what to expect, but she made me feel very comfortable. Her office is a very relaxed environment. Buskers Bar

On Friday 17th February we attended an event named 'MY 24TH BIRTHDAY BASHONEOUT' that was held at Buskers Bar, located at 170 Seaside. Buskers is found in a very accessible part of Eastbourne. Located on the outskirts of the Town centre. The venue was very busy when we arrived at approximately 9pm.

Buskers has been in business since September of 2010, with Karaoke on every Thursday and live bands on Friday and Saturday.

The venue was full on the night we attended and it had a really buzzing atmosphere. The bar was very busy and the service was quick. We didn't have to wait to be served at any point through out the evening.

One of the best features of Buskers is the bar staff. They proved themselves to be: very polite,  friendly and of great sense of humour. Offering friendly banter to the customers. The bar had a number of different patrons of varied ages, from 18 to 65. Proving that the bar caters for all audiences.

On the night there was a live band called THE MOVE ONS which were fantastic! The gig was very interactive and the band created an amazing atmosphere with people dancing and enjoying the spacious venue. The music was varied which suited the audience perfectly. The band were very approachable for requests. I was very impressed to see that all requests made were played with the band incorporating their own twist into the track.

There was surf machine inside Buskers which was a pleasant addition to the night. It was very popular and people were having a lot of fun on there.

Drinks prices were very reasonable. A pint of lager and a double vodka and coke came to around £6.00 for both. Also the bar seemed very well stocked with plenty of different drinks to choose from. The bar has many drink promotions which are always changing with new offers.

Even though this busy bar has weekly entertainment they also have regular upcoming events that generate an extra buzz in the atmosphere. Please see below for some unbelievable upcoming nights and gigs.

Friday 09th March - THE BETTIES - This band is proving very popular and attracting a wide variety of people. The band play a range of music from classic to modern rock.

Saturday 10th March - DODGEBALL NIGHT featuring THE EXPRESS band - That's right a dodgeball night! So come along dresses as one of your favourite characters from the film Dodgeball. This is one of many themed nights that the bar holds. This night will be a busy fun evening with lots of drink promotions so we recommend not to arrive too late if you would like to sit in the one of many seats. THE EXPRESS BAND have many followers and have big success in Brighton, London and are proving very popular in the Eastbourne area.

Picasso's

Tuesday lunchtime we decided to have lunch out at Picasso's. Picasso's is located at 10 Mark Lane. It is easy to find and in a great area of Eastbourne. We hadn't booked and with it being Valentines day, we were unsure if would we able to get a table. They managed to accommodate us with no problems, even though it was very busy. It does become busier in the evenings and the weekends so booking would be recommended.

Picasso's is 1 of 2 independent restaurants (http://www.pablopicassos.co.uk/) owned by the same people and is very popular amongst the people of Eastbourne. They serve Mediterranean food, including: starters, pizzas, salads, pasta and specials. With a daily specials board on the wall.

The restaurant had a number of different patrons dining, including families, professionals and couples. Obviously the food is the main attraction of Picasso's, but the restaurant also has many interesting pictures and decorations to keep the mind entertained. The restaurant is very clean with good lighting. It has a great feeling atmosphere. It is also child friendly with high chairs available for use.

The menu has a wide varity of dishes. Including a big seafood and pizza selection. If you are a vegetarian there are options with a green tick next to them.

For a starter we ordered 'garlic bread mozzarella' and a 'bruschetta mozzarella'.

They were both cooked correctly and served at an appropriate temperature and tasted great. They were not too dry and were buzzing with lots of flavour. Both were pleasantly presented. The ingredients seemed fresh and the texture was a delight.

For the main course we had a 'tagliatelle alla porcini' and a 'pizza americana'.

These were again served at the right temperature and were very well presented. The only criticism I would have is that the plate was slightly too small for the pizza. I would not recommend the pizza to anyone that doesn't like spicy or hot food as the chilli's on the pizza were extremely hot but very nice. There is a warning on the menu that it was hot so I cannot criticise on that.

All of this food came to around £24.00 which I think is very reasonable for two people to eat out. This price also included an orange juice and a Pepsi.

The service was very good. We were greeted with a smile and the staff were very polite. They asked if everything was ok at the end of each course and made us feel very comfortable.

I would definitely return to Picasso's for their great food, exceptional service and phenomenal value for money.

Mia's Soulfood

On Saturday evening I decided to order a take away from Mia's Soulfood. Mia's Soulfood is based on Seaside Road, located in Jesters Bar. They provide authentic Caribbean food at great prices. I hadn't used this establishment before so I was excited to see and taste the type of cuisine they had on offer.

The ordering process was quick and easy. I decided to take up the option of ordering through facebook. All this involved was sending a simple private message with my order and my address. What could be simpler?!
My delivery arrived within 15 minutes of placing the order. Which is great, nothing worse than waiting for a long time for a take out on a Saturday night.

 I ordered the Caribbean Jerk Chicken served with rice and peas, it arrived as described with a salad garnish accompanying the dish. The dish was extremely well presented. The chicken was delightful and was cooked very well, with a firey flavour, ideal for anyone who likes a spicy dish. Unlike a lot of take out food, the chicken wasn't like rubber, it was very tender and came off the bone very easily. The rice and peas were very tasty with a very unique flavour. Some rice dishes can be a bit dry, but this was not one of them.

This dish costs £6.00. I think this is very good value for money. I would encourage everyone to try what Mia's Soulfood has to offer. Thank you Mia's Soulfood for great service and food and I will definitely being visiting you again.
